I have always been around motorbikes since the late seventies where my Mum and Dad use to take me and my brother Wayne to the road racing grand prix's and also the TT on the Isles of Man and that's where I learnt to ride a motorbike in the mountains on the Island.
We then moved back to the mainland and Dad bought us a 50cc each. Wayne and I used to ride them around the garden and our granddad's field for hours and hours. We then used to get old scrap bikes and ride and ride them until they stopped.
After a few years of doing that Wayne wanted to race at the age of thirteen and me being ten years old I wanted to do it as well but Mum being Mum said no. But after a year of nagging she agreed to let me race, game on!!
I was bought a Honda cr80 and did about four months of racing but then had a serious injury and so had to give up for two years.
At the age fourteen I was back! Riding a Honda 125 I joined the same club Wayne was riding for and finished fifth in the club championship in my first year. My Dad saw my confidence was growing and entered me into the schoolboy nationals where I had a successful five years doing them getting into the top eight in the country in my age group. I also had a successful club championship campaign where I was never out of the top six and also won a few races.
At my last year in schoolboys I was at the club presentation dinner where they had motocross god STEFAN EVERTS presenting the awards. After the presentation I asked him “Do you want to go clubbing” and he said yes. Picture the scene then 3 TIMES WORLD CHAMPION!!! (now 10 TIME WORLD CHAMPION!!) out drinking and dancing with me and my mates cool!
I did two years in the adults and had a successful time seeing off the bigger bikes and did well in the championships, but my Dad stopped the money and so I had to give up. Five years later I was back on a borrowed Husky and did four months of racing and had real good time I even had people come up to me in pits and want their picture taken with me as well as my autograph, awesome! The Husky was then sold so I had to give up.
Bought a new Honda 125 in April 2005 and did half a season of racing with Hampshire Club. Last season was my first full season back racing and I finished second in the 125 Hampshire Motocross Club championship and fifth in clubman's championship.
I'm now riding a Suzuki RM250 and have been training hard for the new season where I'll be contesting the Hampshire and UMX club championships. HAPPY DAYS!!!!! |
