| Round 2 of the United Motocross Championships (UMX) - Winterpick - 9th May 2010 |
After a good solid ride in round 1 at Swanmore, I was hoping for a similar result. Three years of riding at Winterpick it has always been eventful, will it be eventful?? Oh yes it was. The motorhome broke down en route and with myself taking a completely different route to the race I had no way to help. The motorhome got going but only to get home, so I was at home sitting down thinking we can use the support van! So a quick transfer of gear and a phone call to Olly to let the officials know I was going to be late. Got there just to get on the line for qualifying!
Practise was a quick two laps, found no lines just getting a feel of the bike.
Qualifying, My mind still rushing from the journey. I just wanted to qualify, I gated about 10 th came through the pack in the first lap and had a couple of battles and bought it home in 7 th , enough to qualify for the main.
Race 1 I was a little more relaxed. I got to the first corner and a rider fell in front of me and to my left and right, I had nowhere to go. I started second to last, the red mist came down and I was charging through the field until I came across Freddie Heath. By this time I was a little tired and Freddie was holding his lines and I finished 12 th after a hard race.
Race 2 was pretty lonely with a few battles. I gated 6 th or 7 th and stayed there the whole race until the last lap someone tried to go round the outside of me, I had the inside line and just held it and the rider hit the ropes and I finished in 6 th .
Race 3 I gated about 4 th and in turn two a slower rider who had a good start was all over the show and hit my front wheel and nearly took me out. I overtook him and pressed on having a battle with 400 and Neal Paddington, I was showing good speed and being consistent. After the finish line the bike died and lost all power with 2 laps to go! We found out later that the plug had blown out so had a dnf.
Well Winterpick always has surprises for me and it didn't disappoint! Happy with my racing today and it is something to build on. |

| 125 Twinshock British Championship - Modern Open Support - Owslebury 25th April |
This meeting was a good chance for good bike time, as there was no championships at stake. After a week of sun, the track was heavily watered on Saturday. Little did we know it would rain over night.
Practise, I was in 8 th practise out which was only 3 laps! By the 8 th practise the track was in perfect condition, after finding some nice lines the dust started to appear, so I knew the start would be the key.
Race 1, I lined up just left of the box knowing a good start was needed with a full 40 line up. Shot out of gate and holeshotted the race! I was flying, maybe a bit too quick as I went into a corner on the first lap and over shot the corner and then two riders tucked inside of me. I was in third…..coping well until my front end washed out on a corner, caused by a puncture. Got back on and felt discomfort in my Ankle, I raced around until the end and finished 13 th . Got back into the pits and I couldn't walk!
Race 2, After sitting in the race truck all the time since my last race, my Dad helped me onto the bike. Got down to line and started in the same place as I did in the first. Didn't grab the holeshot this time but I was in 2 nd and feeling every bump and jump on my Ankle. I rode it home to a similar finish as the first race.
Race 3, Got helped onto the bike again and got 2 nd out of the gate again. My Ankle was feeling a bit better after heavily strapping and taking some painkillers. I gave people a good battle but was still feeling the pain. I managed to get a top 10 finish despite another front puncture. After an eventful day of pain and punctures I finished in the top ten overall. This result was a real boost for me, as I knew I could have done better without the problems. I went down to the local A-E on Monday and had an x-ray and found out I badly sprained my Ankle. |

| Round 5 of the 2010 Hampshire Motocross Championships - Binstead - 11th April 2010 |
Well…. with the nasty weather of West Meon, I was glad too see the Sun at Binstead and in a strange way a new start.
Practise I was last out and nearly missed it! I went out and really enjoyed myself finding some great lines. As I nearly missed it I only did two laps and a practice start.
Qualifying was a real buzz! I gated about 6th and by the end of lap I was in 1st, held it till the second from last corner and made a little mistake and Sam Gabriel snuck through and I finished 2nd .
Two-stroke race was a tale of two mistakes! I was 2nd round the first corner kept the position for most of the race until I made two mistakes in two laps and dropped to 4th by then I was getting tired and couldn't do anything about it.
Race 1, after waiting for a few hours since the two-stroke race, my muscles were cold and mind had wandered a bit. I was in sixth around the first corner, held the position for a few laps and had some good battles with Shane Reid and Mark Withers. The rest really got to me and I started to tire and finished 14th .
Race 2, I was speaking to my Dad on the line and he said “mind your front brakes they have fork oil on them” as the seals had started to leak. Okay I said. Got into the first corner in the top half, put my brakes on and they weren't as sharp. I managed to get round the first corner after a few knocks, I was in 3rd and felt really relaxed and happy and was enjoying it, I was pushing for 2nd and on the third lap I came out of a corner, got my body positioning wrong and flipped it?? What was all that about? The red misted dropped and I came back through the field and finished 13th . I wanted this race to carry on but it didn't. I was happy though showed good pace and hopefully the season starts here!!! |

| Round 4 of the 2010 Hampshire Motocross Championships - West Meon - 3rd April 2010 |
With the torrid weather we been having, I wasn't really looking forward to this one. Turned up to a wet soggy paddock, I looked at the track and it looked very riderable, from a distance.
Practise turned out to be a mud bath! I jumped over the first jump and landed and it felt like I stopped, it was deep!! Did a couple of laps and came in and straight to the jet wash.
Qualifying was all about survival. So I grabbed an average start, I was hoping for the holeshot so I wouldn't get covered in mud. I was in 4th and kept my nose clean, well as much as could. Finished 4th and qualified for the main.
Two stroke was a little disappointing. This was because I got myself up to 2nd after having a poor gate. I could see Olly in front of me and was closing until I made a schoolboy error and got cross rutted at high speed and the front washed out on me and I was on the floor, remounted and I was coming back up through the field and then I fell again and was gutted! Finished 5th .
Race 1. I didn't have a clutch after damaging it in the two stroke race and I lasted about two laps, holding a top six position and then on the 2nd jump I landed on the angle on the chalk and wiped out. Remounted only to fall off again, by this time I was lap down and just saw it home.
Race 2 was very similar to race 1. This race though was a little better, still had no clutch, I gated about 8th and held it for a lap and guess what, yep I fell, really angry, the red mist came down and I had a lot of ground to make up. I was coming up through the field and I was working hard without a clutch and the last lap I went into a corner and couldn't stop and went down and couldn't start and all the hard work was gone.
Not too bad really, I had no clutch and showed real fight the fitness is getting there as well. |

| Round 3 of the 2010 Hampshire Motocross Championships - Marshfield - 21st March 2010 |
After racing last at UMX, my confidence was high and I have been training hard the week leading up to this race. I have been on my mountain bike and done about 60 miles during the week and also doing some running and 5 a side. Really up for it.
Practise was a wash out for a lot of riders! I followed Olly out and dropped it in 4 th corner, picked the bike up and sat and watched my fellow riders fall. I then picked my line, got past the fallen and rode round and done one lap. (too messy)
Qualifying I just wheel spinned out of the gate and gated about 10 th , I said to myself overtake a few and just qualify for the main which I did I came home in 4 th .
Two stroke race was kind of strange one. I was in second behind Olly and riding at an average pace and then my eyes had some really nasty grit in them, I couldn't see a lot. I was shaking my head and then I dropped it in a puddle, got going and still finished 2 nd .
1 st A race was really hard work, I had very little energy to race with, I thought if can just keep it up right and steer it home I would regroup for race 2.
2 nd A race I holeshotted and I was off! But it was a similar story to the first race. I tired very quickly and had a very poor finished.
Overall I think I have over done it with the exercise and really felt it while racing. The Monday after I developed flu like symptoms which could have been a factor?? Looking forward to the next race. |

| Round 1 of the United Motocross Championships (UMX) - Swanmore - 7th March 2010 |
Well this was the first UMX of the year and after missing many of last year's rounds, I am hoping for some good performances. After walking the track in the morning it was plain to see the farmer had done nothing to the track apart from maybe raking it! So I knew a tough day was to lay ahead.
Practise was fun with the track being loamy; I lead from start to finish. It was a good test for the suspension which I've had completely serviced.
Qualifying was an interesting one; I found myself 100% relaxed. I holeshotted and lead all the way till the last few corners when Harry Seymour past me but I felt good and was riding relaxed.
Race 1 I gated 2nd. I quickly pasted Harry Seymour for the lead and I was off, well till they red flagged the race. The restart wasn't that great I was about 8th into the first corner I then worked myself up to 4th and was chasing 2nd and 3rd I gained on them but was unable to make in roads on them as I was running the same pace. I then decided to roll off a little as the track was really dangerous 2nd and 3rd fell and I finished 2nd, a good start.
Race 2 I gated 4th got through into 3rd and stuck behind one rider I couldn't past for the whole race, I used all my energy up and made the same mistake two laps in a row and let two riders through, this must be lack of bike time? After being off injured.
Race 3 I holeshotted and lead for a few laps, then dropped to third and stayed there till the second from last lap where I dropped to 4th and that was where I finished.
Overall I was happy with my result, as I never pushed myself and the track being really gnarly and dangerous it wasn't worth risking injury, 2nd overall was a great first race overall. |

| Round 2 of the 2010 Hampshire Motocross Championships - Swanmore - 14th Feb 2010 |
Practise was all about new lines of the much-improved Swanmore with the grading being A1. Felt really smooth and was looking forward to another step towards my comeback.
Qualifying was awesome! Gated about 4th then got into 3rd pretty rapid, only having Harry Seymour and Mark Withers was in my way for the lead. I made some attempts to past them without any joy. I knew I was faster than the leaders but I then made an error which I put down to lack of bike time. I tucked inside of them both and the front end washed away and I was on the floor! Got back up and manage to qualify for the main quite comfortably.
Two stroke race and I had a bad start with only gating sixth. I could see Olly getting off in front and I needed to pass the two in front who were having there own private battle. I managed to pass them and then caught second place and instead waiting and biding my time I went for a rash move on the inside and hit the floor and then the bike didn't want to start. I remounted and finished 6th .
The A races were really poor as I had no fight in me, which was a shame because I want it in my heart but my head says otherwise. It was a good experience and more bike time. |

| Round 1 of the 2010 Hampshire Motocross Championships - Foxholes - 7th Feb 2010 |
After missing the second half of the season last year my confidence has taking a bashing, so the first few meetings are to get race fit and gain some confidence.
Cold and wet!! The normal Foxholes then! Haven't been on the bike for 5 months, so just wanted to get round and finish.
Practise was fun and kind of strange to be back in the saddle but I had no problems apart from I got muddy.
Qualifying- My first holeshot on the RM250, which felt really good as I have been struggling to get out of the gate. Lead it for half a lap and then Jamie Skuse passed me. Had a good battle with him for about two corners and then never saw him again?? Ended up finishing 4th after Rupert Heaton hit my front wheel and I lost two positions.
2stroke race- My goggles broke on the line. My start wasn't the best so had to make my way through some riders and got caught in the pack. Got through to 3rd and nearly grabbed 2nd but ran out of time.
A r1- gated about 6th kept the position for a few laps then had a battle with number 201 and some other fellow riders for a while before I got tired. Ended up in 10 th which wasn't too bad.
Ar2- Gated 8th and dropped back quite quickly as my wrists really hurt and couldn't really twist the throttle that far, finished 17 th . I have wrist supports coming, so bring on Swanmore!! |
| |
| Round 11 of the Hampshire Motocross Championships - Swanmore - 4th October 2009 |
After a solid ride last weekend I was feeling quietly confident for this weekend, all I had to do was to stay on board and get some bike time underneath my belt.
Practise was a normal Swanmore practise, trying to find smooth lines that aren't there! Rode it hard in places so I could get my body use to motocross again.
Qualifying I gated about 4 th and pushed up into 3 rd and was closing Lee Clayton down, then I stalled it, what was I doing?? I think I need more time on the bike. I bought it home in 4 th , I think.
The two stroke race was no picnic for me as I made too many schoolboy errors! I gated 3 rd and got into 2 nd and pushed to stay with Olly for a couple of laps but he was much sharper than I was and I kept making small silly mistakes, which I wasn't making at the beginning of the season. I then came down the last hill and into the left hander and the front end dug in and I dropped it. I then was 4 th and I did catch up 2 nd and 3 rd but I used all my energy in doing so and couldn't pass them, so 4 th it was, a little disappointed.
1 st A race I picked gate 34 so my choice of gate was very limited, but got on with and gated really well in the top 4. Shane Reid was in front of me he got it a little wrong in 1 st corner came across me and wiped my front wheel out and down I went. Got up and I was last and then the race was stopped due to an accident and the meeting cancelled.
Overall I need more bike time! |

| Round 6 of the United Motocross Championships - West Meon - 27th September 2009 |
Well since I last wrote lots have happened in my life, but I would like to say a big well done to Olly who is having a fantastic season and deserves all the results he is getting.
As I said lots have happened to me, I have had surgery on my wrist, which left me unable to ride for over three months, I have had the bike stolen but there is a up side my wife gave birth to our baby daughter.
Having three months off has certainly taken it's toll on my bike fitness, so I knew not expect a lot and to just go out there and ride and get bike time.
Practise felt strange and I felt not one with the bike, although it felt good to just ride and get use to being back on the bike and learn how to ride.
Qualifying could have been a disaster but it wasn't. I nearly hit the gate? (bit rusty on my starts) and was nearly last going along the start straight, but with qualifying your with lesser experience riders, which I rode round a lot of the field to bring it home in 8 th and qualified for the main.
First race I was about mid pack on the start and worked myself up to 5 th within a few laps by then the leading pack had gone, but I could still see them and kept pace with them. I then started to get tired and was losing positions and ended up 11 th .
Second race was a carbon copy of the first I started well and gained a few positions and then my back end slipped out and I was facing the other way, I was still upright though. I got going again and finished just outside the top 10.
Third race I needed a long soak in the bath, I was worn out with the sun being out all day and the track rutting up quite badly. I knew the start was the key, so gated well enough but got tired and finish just outside the top 15.
Overall I was pleased with my riding as for being out for so long. My pace was a bit off and my confidence was a little lower than normal but I know it will come back with bike time. So 11 th overall, I was happy with that, I have beaten people who have been riding nearly every week. |

| Round 3 of the United Motocross Championships - Winterpick- 10th May 2009 |
Well everything has gone yellow! Yep the Honda has gone and a Suzuki has replaced it. After arriving at the track late on Saturday night, the farmer was watering the track. So head down for the night and really looking forward to racing the Suzuki.
Practise was exciting being on another bike really did add to the buzz of riding. A totally different bike to the Honda really felt good and easy to ride, until I dropped it in a corner and lost all the front brake!
Qualifying with no front brake was a battle of who's got the biggest balls!! I didn't get the best of starts but worked myself up into the top 6 which was good enough to qualify for the main. In doing so I was using the clutch a lot in the corners and on the last lap she gave up the ghost and I stopped the engine and dnf'd qualifying.
Race 1 in the C race was a no go really…..I hit the gate!! On the start, with a made up front brake and clutch, I didn't know what to expect. I was in about 8 th on the first lap and was coming up through field until I went through the ropes because of lack of brakes so I decided to pull in.
Race 2 I holeshotted then lost the lead to another non qualifier rider, I regained the lead in a awesome move lead for a little bit a then he overtook me and I followed him in 2 nd .
Race 3 was pretty much a carbon copy of race 2. I holeshotted again and finished in 2 nd I used this race as a bit of practise trying to get use to the new bike.
Overall I was gutted about the bike problems but that has been my season to date, but the potential of the bike is awesome!! |

| Round 6 of the Hampshire Motocross Championships - Swanmore - 26th April 2009 |
Practise was fun and with the changes to the track it set a new challenge, finding some awesome lines and taking some practise starts all was looking good for a great days racing.
Qualifying was exciting! After gating mid pack I had my work cut out. The first 3 corners was pretty manic and when riding round a sweeping left hander Chris Bick rode straight across my line and took me out, I was on the ground quickly remounted only to find myself near last. This was it! I was flying through the field like a hot knife through butter, until Steve Bazell fell off in front of me and I had nowhere to go but to go into him. My front wheel was struck in his bike, got it untangled and I was off, flying again bought it home but not sure if I qualified but I did.
Two stroke race was quite lonely, I couldn't get out of the gate again. I was in about 7th quickly got into 3rd and was closing in on Olly and number 94 but got about 5 bike lengths away and made a silly mistake and then they gapped a bit more, kept the same gap for about 3 laps then over cooked into a corner and Olly was gone so I settled for 3rd .
Race 1 felt good everything was right apart from the start, I was left by myself on the start straight, so this is good practise for my passing, I was taking every line around the track to get through. I got myself up to 5th on the last lap then I missed a gear and slipped down to 7th . Still happy though as all the work I had to do that to achive this.
Race 2 I had a similar start but this time I had rider fall off right in front of me so I was last again, I rode out of my wits but this time the bike felt a bit restricted I came up through to about 13th and that's where I finished.
Just like to congratulate Olly on his first overall at HMX with a 1-1 finish. The Honda had a broken clutch friction plate, hence lack of power and not be able to get off the start, more mechanical grief. |
| |
| Round 2 of the United Motocross Championships - Foxholes - 19th April 2009 |
2nd round of the umx, my aim was a top 3 finish, all set after the broken crank casing incident at HMX.
Practice was good, found some good lines the track was burming up well. Hitting the big jumps but seem to be struggling a bit.
Qualifying was a hard work because I had to come from near last and make some adventurous moves on other riders, but got into the position to qualify and bought it home.
Race 1 was a bit disappointing I couldn't get off line again and I struggled for about 3 laps then I pulled in because of bike problems
Race 2 and 3 were very much the same I gated near last and had to fight my way back through which I did and managed to put it into the top 10.Had some good battles along the way and found some good lines. A bit worried about the bike as im not getting off the line. |
| |
| Round 5 of the Hampshire Motocross Championships - Binstead - 12th April 2009 |
After a cracking performance at Winchester club my confidence is a lot higher than it has been for a while! So bring on Binstead at a top 6 finish.
Practise was a messy affair after rain during the week, showing good pace and still had some in reserve. Pulling up the long straight Olly rode next to me and with a bit of shouting banter, I notice the bike didn't sound right and Olly went past like I was stood still????
Qualifying went with no problems, I gated about 6th and passed a couple of riders and then stuck up the inside of Lee Clayton to gain 3rd I then pushed for a lap but the front two were racing at the same speed so I settled for 3rd . Came in and sat down and looked at my bike to see the chain guard was missing and a crack in my casing, my day was over.
Lucky enough Stuart Dickson lent me his Mighty KTM 450, I missed the two stoke race but I went out in the MX1 and managed 6th not bad for my 1st time on a 4 banger.
The first A race I gated 3rd and was fine for about 4 laps then I got really bad arm pump and just went back through the pack and finished 8th .
I hit the gate in the second A race, haven't done that in years!! I tried really hard to come back through the field but on a strange bike and arm pump settling in, I found it a struggle. Finished 11th overall got some points on the board, so not a bad day.
Big Shout to Stuart for lending me his bike and to Olly who finished a fantastic 2nd ! |
| |
| Round 4 of the Hampshire Motocross Championships - Foxholes - 5th April 2009 |
After riding the same tracks, Foxholes seemed a breath of fresh air. Having not ridden there for a few months, the track looked in awesome condition the farmer had taken a lot of time preparing the track and it showed in the days racing.
Practice caught me out a little bit! Where the farmer graded the track to a high standard, I hit all the jumps as normal and all the jumps were a lot steeper and they just threw me right high in the air, apart from that no worries.
Qualifying and I was about 6th round the first corner came through to 3rd and held that for a little while and finished 4th . Nothing really eventful happened, just used it as an extended practice.
Two stroke race was going to be tough with Olly riding out of his skin at the moment I knew, I had to ride at his pace. The gate dropped and we were away. I holeshotted from Olly but that was short lived because he got me on the first lap, we battled for about 4 laps but I couldn't do anything about it because we going at the same pace. I made a small error coming out of the corner and Olly gapped me a little then the next lap I jumped the double into the corner and with the fear of washing out under braking I over ran the berm. I got going again and finished 2nd .
Rubbish start in the first A race, got going though and was coming up through the field then I stalled it. Not a big worry until got hit from behind and was knocked to the ground, I remounted and came back up through to 15th from near last.
The last race I gated better and had a few battles and was in 7th until the last lap, when I nearly went over the bars and lost it and finished 8th . Going back to the old setup has improved the bike and I feel a lot more at home on it. |
| |
| Round 3 of the Hampshire Motocross Championships - West Meon - 29th March 2009 |
This is one of my worst tracks! But it was back at West Meon and it was time to race. After a average meeting at Binstead my confidence is still pretty low and with the bike setup not being right, it was another try out meeting.
Practise was ok considering I don't like the track, the farmer had put some top soil down which helped the grip up the hills. I Made some practise starts every lap. I managed to get good drive in 3 rd but the start straight was to short to use it.
Qualifying was good, I holeshotted (in 2 nd gear) then I thought about putting some fast laps together, which was working because I gapped the guy who finished 3 rd overall on the day, but then I made a few mistakes and lost my focus and dropped down to 3 rd and that's where I finished.
Two stroke race was a strange one after coming into the first corner in 2 nd and having to use Olly as a upright and a guide to get me round the corner, Cheers mate. Allan was a bit out of control and came across my path just before the first jump and I had put the brakes on pretty rapid to stop both of us hitting the ground, in doing so I lost 3 places, so I regrouped and was chasing Olly and Allan down until I lost the back end in the bomb hole and then I was dead last. I got going again came up and I could see third place man and I was gaining until I hit the first down hill jump and went over the bars. I got back up really hurting but I came back through to 5 th .
The A race didn't really go to plan, gated about 9 th managed to do about 4-5 laps at speed trying to get past Spaggs then I faded to the point I couldn't hold on so I was riding round at near walking pace.
2 nd A race was a lot better, in the top 8 and I could see 5-6 and 7 th after trying to get past them I faded again and lost 5 positions in the last lap and a half, just couldn't hold on again.
Going to Foxholes with another bike set up something very similar to the first round at Swanmore, fingers crossed. I know I have it in me to finish top 6, just got to get the pieces of the jigsaw and put them together. |
| |
| Round 1 of the United Motocross Championships - Swanmore - 1st March 2009 |
After walking the track with Olly I thought to myself this is going to be tough! I have made a lot of changes with the bike including the suspension and the gearing. The track was in really poor condition, I was really looking forward to this meeting but with seeing the track I had a challenge!
Practise was like riding the last race at the Hampshire meeting avoiding all the bumps and trying to find smooth lines. The new bike set up felt strange.
Qualifying I holeshotted and was really gunning for it but I struggled to get smooth and relaxed on the bike which put me into 4 th place, but still qualified for the main.
1 st race was a complete washout I still struggled to get relaxed again but I did try until I was pushed over the berm and I couldn't get going again, but I still finished.
2 nd race was a lot better I still couldn't get use too the new setup but I bought it home in 7 th which was a great improvement from the 1 st race, still got really tired though.
3 rd race I didn't start that well but came up through the field to 10 th which I remained and finished.
I learnt a lot from this meeting not just from the bike but the whole motocross thing, I'm hoping to kick start my season from now on. I know I have the speed to do well and win races but I am learning to put it into practice. |

| Round 2 of the Hampshire Motocross Championships - West Meon - 22nd February 2009 |
After the highs of Swanmore the week before, my aims were to better the results than Swanmore. With bad head shake on the front end at Swanmore, further investigation was needed. I found the headstock bearings worn and they needed replacing. With my added confidence it was time to roll!!
Practise at West Meon is very much like Swanmore with very few lines to choose from but at the end of practise there were a few appearing, which gave an idea of what the track would be like throughout the day.
Qualifying looked like a main event, I looked up and down the line to see most of the main contenders. The gate dropped and I was away! I gated about 4 th then got up into 3 rd chasing Paul and Rob that was pretty much it until the last lap, Olly caught me sleeping and snuck up the inside of me, I did have a chance of getting him back but it might have harmed both of us. We both qualified for the main.
The two stroke race was a 3 way battle for most of it with Paul taking control of it. Olly did get past Paul about 3 laps in and on seeing this I knew if I didn't past Paul, Olly would pull away. It took another 3 laps to past Paul…. then I focused on Olly, I was getting closer and closer, but the raced finished and came home in 2 nd behind Olly, a good result for the team.
The first A race was a nightmare! I gated about 8 th but just went backwards to about 17 th I couldn't find any lines I was over running corners, a right mess! I just said to myself come on sort it out, so then I came back up through the field to 12 th and I could see the next 5 riders in front and I was gaining lap by lap but the gap was too big!
The 2 nd A race was a bit better gated about 6 th and was holding position and keeping the same gap with the leaders, but then I lost most of my power and the engine noise was like a four stroke, I know a four stoke!!! All I could do was to ride as best as I could but with having very little power up the hills and out of the corners riders were streaming past, I bought it home in 11 th .
The power lost was the power valve cable braking and the piston melting. All fixed now and ready for round 1 of UMX back at Swanmore. |

| Round 1 of the Hampshire Motocross Championships - Swanmore - 15th February 2009 |
Well with all the winter training I have done, I was feeling quite confident but also quite nervous. The reason for this is because I have only been on the bike once since the last meeting in 2008. The weather was perfect for motocross, a surprise really considering the mix of bad weather we have had causing meetings to be called off, the track was a little different and was changed for the better. could have been graded though.
Practise was a typical Swanmore practise, no lines, slippery chalk and rough. But that wasn't to bad though because it gave you a rough idea what the track would be like.
Qualifying I started to feel the nerves, I was thinking…. got to keep upright and just ride and qualify for the main. So the gate dropped and we were heading towards the first corner and I grabbed the holeshot my first of the season! came round the first few corners in 1 st then Gary Chapell over took me and Rupert Heaton, I managed to pass Rupert back but we both went into the corner together and he had the line, a few corners later Gary went down and it was just me and Rupert we had a little race but both held our position and I qualified 2 nd .
The 2 stroke race was new this year so all was to play for. The gate dropped and I had my 2 nd holeshot of the year :) coming into the 2 nd corner I went wide and Allen and Olly nipped inside of me putting me down to 3 rd . With Olly on his new bike I knew it was going to be tough to beat him. I kept the same distance between us for most of the race but my bike was handling like a pig and was given me really bad headshake, so I worn out and came home in 3 rd .
The A race was good, I didn't get the holeshot but gated about 12 th I had a gaggle of riders in front of me which I slowly picked off one by one and got myself up to 6 th I held that for quite a few laps then was overtaken by Carl Lillywhite and another rider, and then Olly was on a mission! and was i really tired and he over took me at the end (well done mate) I came home in 9 th good result.
2 nd A race was very much the same as the 1 st but I managed to find some neater lines and didn't get as tired, as quickly but still got really bad arm pump though. I had a few battles with a few riders and came out on top, before I got tired I was running in 5 th for about 4 laps then lost 3 places and came home in 8 th
Overall I was happy with the result, maybe a little disappointed with my race fitness but I know that will come, A big well done for the team, both of us put in solid performances. |

| Final Round of the Hampshire Motocross Championships - West Meon - 16th November 2008 |
Well, haven't raced for a few weeks, I was feeling quite relaxed. With no championship to race for, I was looking forward to the meeting and was hoping Olly could stay onboard so he could win the clubman.
Practice was a messy, with the heavy rain during the week it left the track very slippery and with the hard pack chalk surface as well it was very tip toeing around. Found some lines and had a practice start and was ready for a days racing.
Qualifying was pretty good considering the conditions. I said to Luke Wicks on the line “I don't think I will be able to race this track today, there is just no lines” How wrong I was, the gate dropped and I gated in 4 th I over took Luke on the 1 st lap and some guy on a KTM who was out of control. In the process Allan overtook me and I found myself in 3 rd and was pushing for 2 nd with Rupert in front of me, it took me a lap to pass him but I did and finished 2 nd and qualified for the main.
In my 250 shootout race I was looking for a top 8 finish so when I did even better than that it was a result! I came round the first corner in 4 th and held it until half way round the lap when I over took Chris Wratten and I was up to 3 rd and was gunning for the top two. One of them dropped it and I was up to 2 nd then going up the first hill I took the lead and then led for two laps. Allan Waring then passed me for the lead and two laps from the end Chris Wratten came past because I was getting tired and on the last lap I made my only mistake coming out of a corner and Jon Ashby overtook me and put me down to 4 th and that's where I finished.
With the drop gate braking on our first attempt to start we had to start on a flag drop which was CRAP! I came around the first lap in about 10 th and with Rob Whiting in front of me it was really hard to pass him on a one line track. I went for the over take and when I did Jon Ashby hit me in the side and knocked me off. I remounted and was coming back up through the field until I went down the double and landed on the Back Carl Lillywhite and fell off, got back on and finished 30 th .
Race 2 was a lot better I stayed onboard, I came through the field and finished 13 th . I enjoyed the whole day even though I fell off and with Olly winning the Championship (well done mate) it capped a good day. |
