| Final Round of the Hampshire Motocross Championships - West Meon - 16th November 2008 |
Well, haven't raced for a few weeks, I was feeling quite relaxed. With no championship to race for, I was looking forward to the meeting and was hoping Olly could stay onboard so he could win the clubman.
Practice was a messy, with the heavy rain during the week it left the track very slippery and with the hard pack chalk surface as well it was very tip toeing around. Found some lines and had a practice start and was ready for a days racing.
Qualifying was pretty good considering the conditions. I said to Luke Wicks on the line “I don't think I will be able to race this track today, there is just no lines” How wrong I was, the gate dropped and I gated in 4 th I over took Luke on the 1 st lap and some guy on a KTM who was out of control. In the process Allan overtook me and I found myself in 3 rd and was pushing for 2 nd with Rupert in front of me, it took me a lap to pass him but I did and finished 2 nd and qualified for the main.
In my 250 shootout race I was looking for a top 8 finish so when I did even better than that it was a result! I came round the first corner in 4 th and held it until half way round the lap when I over took Chris Wratten and I was up to 3 rd and was gunning for the top two. One of them dropped it and I was up to 2 nd then going up the first hill I took the lead and then led for two laps. Allan Waring then passed me for the lead and two laps from the end Chris Wratten came past because I was getting tired and on the last lap I made my only mistake coming out of a corner and Jon Ashby overtook me and put me down to 4 th and that's where I finished.
With the drop gate braking on our first attempt to start we had to start on a flag drop which was CRAP! I came around the first lap in about 10 th and with Rob Whiting in front of me it was really hard to pass him on a one line track. I went for the over take and when I did Jon Ashby hit me in the side and knocked me off. I remounted and was coming back up through the field until I went down the double and landed on the Back Carl Lillywhite and fell off, got back on and finished 30 th .
Race 2 was a lot better I stayed onboard, I came through the field and finished 13 th . I enjoyed the whole day even though I fell off and with Olly winning the Championship (well done mate) it capped a good day. |

| Round 10 Hampsire Motocross Club Championships - Whitings Water - 5th October 2008 |
Pitched up the night before at this great track so I could get a good nights sleep ready for racing. Haven't really been on the bike since Matterley and with my wrist still hurting it was going into the unknown.
Practice was really about learning the track, because the track had been so well graded there were hardly any lines to learn. But had fun though for 3 laps.
Qualifying went well, with gating high up in the field it was really like a practice. There were some good lines appearing so I learnt the track and finished 5 th and qualified for the main.
250 race there was huge line up of riders. I got down there early so I could get a good gate, which paid off. I holeshotted the race and led it for half a lap until Jon Ashby over took me which put me down to 2 nd and then a few corners later Allan Waring over took me. I settled down for a few laps lost another place feeling quite tired I finished 5 th .
1st A race I gated 3 rd and was really on the move I dropped down to 6 th and was holding that position for quite a few laps until about 3 laps from the finish I started to get arm pump and lost a lot of positions. Who knows if I was race fit a better result could have happened.
2 nd race I didn't get a great start so I got my head down and picked off a lot of positions but in doing so I was using up all my energy reserves and got stuck behind Shane Reid which cost me a higher place finish.
Overall I was quite happy because of my wrist hurting and hardly no bike time, looking forward to the next race. |

| Round 8 Hampsire Motocross Club Championships - Matterley Basin - 3rd August 2008 |
Another year has gone since the last matterley adventure, with the Hampshire club doing a great job with the track (hats off to Jamie) all was good to go. Olly and I walked the track in the morning with some our fellow riders and walked over the massive jumps and triples trying to find the best lines. Olly said to me “just got to hit them flat out”.
Practice was a learning curve for me as I took Olly's advise on board and hit every jump flat out and clearing them with ease, on the first lap! Of course this felt good and I started to get a good flow going which put me in good stead for the day. Qualifying had it's up's and it's downs with gating about third round the first corner I was looking to increase my position until I cased one of the triples and bent my wrists right back. I was in a lot of pain and lost a few positions but I got myself together and pulled a few back and qualified for the main.
Race1 I had a rubbish start getting bogged in around the first corner, I was quite near the back so it was head down and I picked my way through the field until I got to16th and I could not go any further because the pace was super quick. I could see the guys in the top 10 but I was running the same pace and couldn't do anything about them, so I finished where I was which I was happy about.
Race2 and my wrist was killing me so I pain killered myself up and the gate dropped and I was away, or so I thought. Same sort of start and race as the first race coming back through in a lot of pain but still showing some good pace and raced to the finish.
Overall I was happy with my ride, as last year I had bike problems and didn't make the main. I really enjoyed this LEUKAEMIA BUSTERS meeting and hats off again to all at Hampshire Motocross Club. Had my wrist x-rayed on Tuesday after the meeting and found out I had broken my left wrist. |

| Round 5 United Motocross Championships (UMX) - Ringmer - 13th July 2008 |
Well with the “truck of luck” back on the road we headed across to East Sussex , To a track called Ringmer. With the truck filled up with fuel thanks to our sponsor AFS HAULAGE we were all ready to go!! I had a new rear tyre from Golden tyre (WHAT A TYRE!) We arrived on the Saturday evening and set up camp and enjoyed some fine food and company. Woke up Sunday Morning with the sun in it's full glory, walked the track with Olly, wasn't too impressed because the organising club has over watered it and it was like a swamp well a swamp with a few jumps.
Practice went ok no real problems, the only problems I came against was to try and avoid the puddles. I was due to go out in first practice but opted to go out in the second to try and find some lines but the track was too wet.
Qualifying had it highs and lows. The highs were I holeshoted the race and was looking good until Paul Cannon came past me and roosted me with the biggest mud bath you ever seen, I could not see a thing. My rolloff's failed and I had very poor vision, I didn't want to take off my goggles because I would not be able to see at all. After all that I came in 6 th and made the main.
Race 1 went ok until just around the first corner there was rider who gave it to much right hand and came off causing a mass pile up with me involved, got up only to realise my throttle cable was damaged and was revving at high rev's. Rushed it back to truck and had it repaired but missed four laps but still managed to finished the race and scored some points.
Race 2 had a better start and got away with the field and with the Goldentyre on I was ripping up the dirt and getting so much grip it was like I was on rails. Had a good finish and scored some good points.
Race 3 was much the same as the second with the track being dried out and the conditions being very fast it was tough going, but the RSR Honda with the Goldentyre on was strong and saw me home after a long tough race.
Overall it was a good positive meeting for the team, with the discovery of the new tyre, we are looking forward to Matterley basin. |

| Round 7 Hampsire Motocross Club Championships - Cusses Gorse - 22nd June 2008 |
After a long layoff, because of injury and lack of events to compete in my confidence was on the low side but I still wanted to race! My main objective was to stay upright and to protect my injuries.
Practise was pretty good, got a little of that confidence back found some good lines but knowing those lines would be gone by the first race.
Qualifying was eventful I gated about 2nd but lost a place then I hit the first tabletop and wind took me off line and I landed off the track, I came back on line but as I did my left side fork hit a post and bent my front disc and in turn I had no front brake. So when I came to the next corner there was no brakes so I went over the berm and came back in but lost a lot places. I quite enjoyed the race and used the long sweepers and railed them and came up into a qualifying position all pretty easy.
250's I holeshotted but my confidence being a bit low I lost a lot of positions And finished a lowly 16th not very happy with myself and also with my shoulder and thumb giving me grief.
The two A races I rolled right off and started last in both of them and came up through the field in both of them, I had no incidents and did some great undertaking and stayed up right .
Overall I was pleased I was in one piece and I had great practise/race day all was good, and now I have the bug back. BRING IT ON!!! |

| Round 4 United Motocross Championships (UMX) - Winterpick Farm - 5th May 2008 |
Woke up at the crack of dawn for this one, I then looked out of the window to see the rain coming down so hard you could hear on the roof! It looked pretty grim, so I thought with my injury to my left arm and shoulder I would give it a miss and save my arm. So I text Olly to say it is chucking it down here and to go and ride solo for the team.
I went back to bed and lay there for a few minutes and was thinking, I feel that I am missing out on something. So I jumped into the truck and set off and the nearer I got to the track the better the weather was. Olly and I arrived and looked at the track and my first impressions was very old school and very fast.
Practise went good found some quick lines and one's to avoid as well but I was suffering with my arm injury “it hurt like hell” so i found if I kept it up right and pointed the bike in a straight line all was good.
Qualifying, I kept out of the way at the start and gated about 7 th as I went around the first lap I could see dust was going to be a problem. But with that in mind I kept a steady pace and finished 8 th and done enough to qualify.
The first race was a bit of a mixed bag really I didn't want to do anything silly, so the first four laps I took it easy but in doing so, I dropped down to about 23 rd then I found some smooth lines and picked a few riders off which saw my confidence grow. Every lap I was overtaking riders and I didn't want the race to end and I ended up in 12 th place which I was happy about considering everything.
The second race was looming but never happened because of poor organisation, as I said earlier the dust looked to be a problem and it was. With no water bowsers they had to cancel the event and we later learnt that they turned the bowser away, to water the track earlier that morning.
The club should look at the whole picture before running a event, all I have to say on the matter is- ALL THE GEAR, NO IDEA!! |

| Round 5 Hampsire Motocross Club Championships - Binstead - 27th April 2008 |
After a good run out at Foxholes last week at the UMX championship I was looking forward to HMX this week, but after a heavy fall in the last race which lead to myself knocking me out and ripping my shoulder and tricep muscles. The doctors told me not to race but I did anyway in extreme PAIN!
Practise went ok, I was a bit late for it, but it began to rain really heavy and what started a bit dusty ended up as sticky mud bath. So I did two laps and pulled in as I know the track quite well and to give my left arm a rest.
Qualifying was pretty good all I wanted to do was to get in A group, I gated about third which was a result considering. My aim was to keep the bike upright and try and keep a good pace, which I achieved and came home in about 5 th or 6 th , which was good enough for the top group.
250's was a mixed bag for me because I gated about 4 th and held onto that position for nearly a lap until Spaggy cut across my line and I had put on the brakes and it being wet the front end washed out on me. I got up as quickly as I could but the time I got up I was near last, then the red mist came down and I just rode as fast as I could to try and catch the leaders but it being a super quick lap they were gone. I did manage to come back through to 6 th which I was chuffed about.
1st A race I lined up on the inside middle and shot off the gate but with my arm hurting I was being cautious and was only 4 th going into the first corner but with two riders unable to turn the 1 st corner, I was in second! I knew it was going to be tough as I had very little strength in my arm all I could do was try and hold as many people behind as possible. I was in 7 th place until the last lap when Tony Tunnel had come off and rolled his bike back onto my line pushing me wide allowing Olly and a couple others through, 10 th not bad.
2nd A race and Olly and myself lined up next to each other which proved not a good move. As I went off the gate with the back end sliding around my rear wheel clipped Olly's front and he came off, I didn't know anything about until the end of the race. I didn't get the greatest of starts I was about mid pack but I made myself up to 14 th not too bad as I was in a lot of pain, but I managed to finish 10th overall. |

| Round 3 United Motocross Championships (UMX) - Foxholes - 20th April 2008 |
Well….. After the last UMX when I a stomach upset had the better of me, I was feeling better for this one but also feeling a bit nervous. After a fantastic week weather wise the same old thing happened again RAIN at the weekend, but when we arrived at the track there was only a few puddles and the sun was showing it's head so hopefully a dry day.
PRACTICE
Out in second practice I took it steady and tried to find some lines but the track was fully graded and not many were to be found but it was super quick.
QUALIFYING
I thought I grabbed the holeshot until some Honda lost control and rammed right in the side of me and pushed out wide. I managed to stay upright and was in about 7 th so it was head down and try and get to the front and that was what I was doing, making some sweet undertaking moves on some riders. Then my front wheel washed out on the wet rutted part of the track and I was down! braking my clutch leaver bracket in the process I got going again and still qualified for the main.
RACE 1
Lined up next to Olly on the line, and the gate dropped and we were neck and neck until the first corner when Olly got the line round the corner but we were a RSR 1-2 Olly leading and me in second. Adrain Cowshall got past us both and Paul Cannon did as well we were both chasing hard and Olly lost control of his front end going into the down hill corner and came off, later said “I hit one of the rocks and it just washed out” a couple of laps went by and I was overtaken by number 80 then I got myself together and reeled him back in, but could I past him, nahh! I was behind him for the remainder of the race trying every which way I could to pass him knowing I was faster than him. In doing all of this chasing down I got arm pump and Olly and Danny got past me in the second from last lap which made me 8 th .
Race 2
Holeshotted this one and going into the second corner Adrain had nowhere to go but into me and pushed me down to 3 rd kept that for a while until Paul got past me so I was in 4 th and feeling ok then coming out of a corner I gave it to much gas and dropped it and in the process Olly and Danny went past me I got up and could see Olly, so I charged to catch him only to take a bike length a lap out of him so two laps from the end my arms pumped and just settle for the position which was 7th.
Race 3
Gated about 6 th in this race with Olly just in front of me, the bike felt perfect so I cracked on and caught Olly and took a brave move to get past him then my sights were on 4 th and 5 th placed men I was reeling them slowly until I came to a section of the track where I ridden all day without a problem got it cross rutted the front dug in the handle bars dug into my stomach and I was over the bars and knocked myself out. So game over, a shame really because I was riding well.
A big shout to Olly's brother Ben who helped me get back onto my feet and got the bike back to the pits. Thanks. |

| Winchester MCC - Southern Centre Motocross - Owslebury 13th April |
At one of my favourite tracks, the weather hasn't been to kind to us over the last few weeks and with it raining all week and more forecasted for race day it would be the “same old same old”. With Olly not racing today, I was flying the RSR flag solo.
PRACTISE
With a new clutch in and a new piston change after the clutch exploding last meeting, I had to run the bike in so I just took it easy and learnt the track and watch some other riders crash spectacularly. The bike felt fast and different. I put it down to the new oil seal in the rear shock.
RACE 1 MX1
Lined up in the middle knowing that it would give me the perfect line up the first hill and round the first corner. The gated dropped and I was away! the bike pulled like a train and I grabbed the holeshot and with the track being in perfect condition there was no slipping or sliding. There I was in the lead and I kept that lead for about a lap until two riders slipped underneath me and put me back to 3 rd and then they tripped over each other and fell off, I was back up into first or so I thought their bikes rolled onto my line which caused me to brake and move fast! By doing this two riders managed to get in front of me so I was third again. The new bike setup started to take it's toll on my arms and I was getting tired and slipped back to 12 th .
RACE 2
In the same place on the gate again but this time I only managed 6 th place round the first lap, the pace was hot and with a rider getting it wrong in one of the tight corners I had to stop for a few seconds so he could get going again by this time I lost about 3 places, I did get one back and coming into a corner giving it to much back brake I lost my back end and fell off. Then I couldn't get the bike started and when eventually got it going I lost a few positions so I didn't know where I ended up.
RACE 3
The heavens opened when I sat on the line and got soaked as did the track it was like a skating rink. I got to the first corner in about 4 th and BANG! Some guy hit my back wheel and took me off I quickly remounted and didn't lose that much time. I did a couple laps in this mud bath and dropped it in corner and just thought I'm coming in because I didn't want to destroy the bike. |

| Round 4 Hampsire Motocross Club Championships - Foxholes - 30th March 2008 |
After a good solid ride at Swanmore I was really looking forward to Foxholes, the weather leading up to the event was rubbish, rain rain and more rain. So I had to concentrate on staying upright and try and protect my bike.
PRACTISE.
The track was more like a swamp rather than a moto x track, but I had the paddles out and got round in one piece covered in mud and wanting more?????
QUALIFYING.
Lined up on the inside of the gate as this was the only part that was not under water. I grabbed a joint holeshot with Rupert Heaton but there was really one decent line round the first corner and Rupert had it just in front of me, we both came out of it and pressed on. I looked behind me to see just one person there and no one else. So being second I let the person through as I wanted to protect the bike. I dropped the bike in the last bend and still finished third.
250'S RACE.
Lined up in the same place, gated about 5 th , got to the second corner and BANG!!!! My clutch had gone. I managed to nurse it round and pushed it over the line to try and save something from the day. Got back to the pits and stripped the clutch out and it was in pieces, my day was over I went home with my tail between my legs.
Overall.
GUTTED!
I have since taken my engine out of the bike and split the casing to give it a good clean out and to find the gearbox and other internals are all in excellent condition. PHEW!!! |

| Round 3 Hampsire Motocross Club Championships - Swanmore - 23rd March 2008 |
Feeling nearly 100 percent after my stomach bug, we were at the hillside of Swanmore with the Snow falling and the wind blowing all ready for a days racing of cross.
PRACTISE
Went to the line the bike didn't sound that great, so took it back to the van and RSR mechanic (Dad) fitted a new plug and all was good and the bike sounded a whole lot better. No incidents, stayed upright and finished finding some good lines.
QUALIFYING
Holeshoted this race but drifted wide and slipped down to 3rd with Olly and Rupert Heaton in front of me. I started to find some really good grip and lines and passed Olly and was chasing Rupert down when I thought to myself "I am in a good position here just stay put and learn the track" and that's what I did coming home in 2nd.
250's RACE
Holeshoted again but this time I kept the lead for about 2-3 laps, when I made a silly little error and the front end wash out on me and Lee Foyle and Allan Warring went pasted I started to catch them both up that's when Allan Dropped it which put me into 2nd and was catching Lee when we hit the back markers he got through them a lot quicker than I did and he gained some time on me, by this time the last lap flag was out and Allan overtook me and I was down to 3rd the finishing position.
1ST A RACE
Gated about 6th with Olly just in front me, the track had completely changed it was hard and very fast I dropped a couple of positions as the race progressed and was in 9th until the 2nd from the last lap when Carl Lillywhite washed my front end out on the fastest section on the track! I was alright but I lost six positions and I finished 15th.
OVERALL
Well happy!! |
| |
| Round 2 United Motocross Championships (UMX) - Owslebury - 21st March 2008 |
Really looking forward to this one! As this is one of my favourite tracks, and after having a good result from round one I was well up for it. I wanted to take my last few race results into this, my fitness was good and the bike had a new clutch all was good! Or so I thought, I went down with a really bad stomach bug on the Thursday and was house bound all day and with the meeting on the Friday things wasn't looking good.
PRACTISE
Hail stones and rain, it was coming out of the sky big time! So I did 3 laps and came in because of the weather conditions and also I had no energy.
QUALIFYING
Lined up about central on the start gate and all I wanted to do was to do enough to get into the A race. First corner I was in about 4th until this Honda drifted well wide and took me and my front end out. Got myself up and got going until a slower rider tried to get out of my way but ended up putting me into the ropes, so I got myself out of the ropes to find myself LAST! So cracked on with what energy I had left and Qualified for the B final, wasn't really worried all I wanted to do was go home to bed.
Race 1
Holeshoted this race so I wouldn't get covered in mud and lead for about 4 laps until I got tired and dropped down to 3rd and that's where I stayed. A bit disappointed as I know I would of blitzed it if I was well.
Race 2
Holeshoted again made a little mistake on lap 1 which put me into 2nd and that's where I finished but this time I chased the leader home.
OVERALL
If I was well I would have been looking for a top 8 finish in the A race, but I wasn't. See what round three brings. |

| Round 1 United Motocross Championships (UMX) - Swanmore - 24th Feb 2008 |
After the first two rounds of the Hampshire championship under my belt, I felt quietly confident about the 1st UMX round. After some changes to my bike and upping my fitness programme all looked good for a great meeting. In the morning Olly and I walked the track and soon realised that it was going to be a tough days racing ahead as the track hadn't been graded from the last race there, the track was beaten to pieces and dangerous.
PRACTISE
No problems here the track was rough, found some good lines and the bike felt really smooth and quick with the new exhaust system on it. The track was starting to cut up badly and with about 180 riders including sidecars going to race on it was going to be tough but it was the same for everyone.
QUALIFYING
Got off to a flying start with grabbing the holeshot but only too be overtaken by some guy on a Honda which put me down to 2 nd which I stayed until the last lap when a KTM overtook me, I thought to myself I am not having this and upped my game to take the position back. Feeling good about that and looking forward to the 1 st race.
1 st RACE
I gated about 5 th then lost a couple of positions and rode a smooth race and kept out of trouble, my arms pumped up a bit because of the track conditions and lost two places and finished 9 th I was happy with that because of the amount of riders on the line.
2 nd RACE
Didn't have the best of starts I think I was in about 14 th place, so I started making my way through the field but the race was stopped on lap 2 due to a accident. The restart was about the same, so I had to do all the work again and had to muscle my way through the field I had no idea what place I was in. It was coming to the end of the race when Olly went past me and I followed him home and in process we picked off a few riders which gave me 9 th again.
3 rd RACE
Had a better start in this one as I gated 3 rd . The pace was fast and I dropped down to 5 th and held that for a long time until a husky fell off in front of me, when I had just opened the throttle to go up one the first hill. I had nowhere to go but to hit his bike, I did a massive endo and the handle bars came up and hit me in the chest and knocked the wind out of me but I managed to stay onboard. Lost places but still bought it home in 8 th and finished 8 th overall. A good days racing and good workout. |

| Round 2 Hampsire Motocross Club Championships - West Meon - 17th Feb 2008 |
Here we are at good old West Meon , where it is either wet or the ground is rock hard and it was rock hard with the heavy frost the night before. The sun was shining but it was bitterly cold, Jamie who runs the club tried his best to get the track in race condition for the solo's, by scraping the surface but the only thing do was to send the quads out and that did the trick.
PRACTISE. The time practise came about it was nearer lunchtime and all that hanging around wasn't doing my body any good but some stretches loosened me up. No problems really trying to find grip on the two stroke was near impossible but found some good lines.
QUALIFYING. I gated about 5 th after wheel spinning off the line by the first down hill I was in third then Jon Ashby went past and was in 4 th and I thought ok this is a good qualifying spot stay up right and you'll be ok, oh I wished I never thought that, to much right hand round a corner and the back end went out on me and was on the floor. Now I had to get past 10 or so riders to get to a qualifying spot, the track was iced up I saw red got my head down and qualified for the A race.
250 RACE. Got to the line late and with 49 riders on the line I had to gate behind the front row which was the first disadvantage, but I still managed to get round the first corner in the top thirty. This was it head down and head towards the top ten, I was picking off riders one by one until I got to this guy on a KTM who looked drunk and was all over the place, I tried to overtake him on the same corner I fell in qualifying and took a different line and slipped off and was hit by another rider. I lost a load of positions so feeling a little disheartened, I rode back through to 17 th not bad considering the amount of riders.
1 st A RACE. Got to the line earlier this time round and picked a spot which proved to be successful as I gated about 8 th I held that position for about a lap with Olly and a few other riders in front of me but kept on making silly mistakes and I was losing my concentration which in turn made me get arm pump and then lost about ten positions which made me 18 th , a bit disappointed because I have been training really hard.
2 nd A RACE. No time to rest, just got in then had to go straight back out again because the quads had finished their days racing. Gated about the same place as the first race. All I wanted to do in this race was to stay upright and finish as high up as I could, but about half through the race my arms were pumped right up so I slowed up a bit and bought it home in 16 th .
A big thank you must go out to NDX-motorcycles for supplying the team with new race gear and great discounts on tyres and oils. |

| Round 1 Hampsire Motocross Club Championships - Foxholes - 10th Feb 2008 |
So this time of year again, dust the bike off blow the cobwebs off I don't know if that is the bike or myself I'm talking about. Foxholes the first round of the Hampshire motocross season, well over the last month I have been training really hard in the gym and I feel a lot fitter and stronger. Also Olly and I did a SMX meeting two weeks before foxholes and did ok considering we haven't raced for five months.
Practise
Feeling a bit nervous about this meeting as it is the first one of the year and it is the first time I have been back too Foxholes with the Hampshire club since I went over bars and ended up in Hospital for the night, Olly and I went off in practise together he went on in front until I passed him a few corners in, did the first lap flying but slowed up for the others to try and find some lines and to find the clearest way through the muck.Got muddy but no reported problems.
Qualifying
Got the start completely wrong, totally misjudged it (lack of bike time) so I gated about 15 th worked myself through the field to a qualifying position, by then the top four had pushed on so I couldn't catch them, I had to settle for a top eight finished but done enough to qualify for the A race.
250's
I had better gate this time around I thought I was going to get the holeshot but Gary Chappell and Paul Moyes pip me to the post, I was in third and then had a sudden bout of nerves because this is my first 250 race since came off last year. I dropped about twelve positions then gained a few positions and ended up in 11 th a bit disappointed but still in one piece.
1st A Race
Another dreadful start I think I was in about 17 th I started to tiptoe around a few riders on the first lap then on the corner after the big tabletop some guy's footrest got caught up in my front wheel and took the bike right out from underneath me and I landed flat on my front, ouch! So I was last and had to do catch up, which I did but I was also making little mistakes which frustrated me, and trying to put a lap together was near impossible. I didn't know where I finished, not that good.
2nd A Race
Had a better gate this time round and I stayed on this time, got around the first lap and there was Olly, ok I thought I will stick with him but then I carried a bit more speed than him around one of corners and overtook him, and just then coming out of one of the bottom corners some guy on a KX got cross rutted on the mucky section and fell off right in front of me. I just about got out of the way but in doing so Olly took the position back, so I was to chase hard again but made a mistake down the downhill double section and it put me further back. Then I said to myself calm down, after that I started to ride smoothly and I was gaining confidence but the race ended. So still in one piece BRING ON MEON!! |

| South Hants Scramble Club - Binstead - 18th March 2007 |
This was just a practise meeting for me. Olly was still out injured so I was riding solo again for the team, but I still had Olly there giving me 101% backing! The meeting wasn't a championship meeting so no silly risks were to be taken.
Race 1 - Heavy with cold and infection I felt pretty rubbish but got on with it. Gated about 3 rd and tip toed round the first corner as the track was bone dry and really hard packed dropped a few positions over the race because of arm pump and getting tired finished up in 12 th not to bad as there was a few experts in front of me.
Race 2 - Carbon copy of the first race really, gated really well and held a good position for a while pressed on never gave up and finished 12 th again on this hard packed motorway of a track.
Race 3 - Different story about this race 5 th around the first corner and felt good finding some really good lines and holding my own in the race, I wasn't getting tired so I cracked on and finished 8 th in the race and 9 th overall on the day and scored some expert points. Binstead isn't a motocross track it is speedway track with a few jumps in it!!!! |

| First Round UMX - Swanmore - 25th February 2007 |
The first round of the umx championship, high expectations are in the team for both myself and Olly, but with Olly still recovering from his knee sugary I was riding solo for the team. The sun was out but it was still bitterly cold on the hillside of Swanmore, with rain during the week the track was in perfect condition.
PRACTISE
Found some really good lines and showing some good pace and felt pretty confident about the days racing ahead.
QUALIFYING
Gated about 4th got up into 3rd pulling away from the rest of the field then Dave Ponting dropped it in front of me which put me up into 2nd and that was where I finished.
1st Race
Round the first corner in about 4th place then I dropped a couple positions down to 6th after making a mistake in one of the corners, I tried to claw myself up the field but I was riding untidy and I was getting tired, my arms were pumping up and people were overtaking me. I was thinking all the hard work I have put in at the gym over the winter was for nothing!! and I ended finishing 12th.
2nd Race
Got the holeshot in this race but came out of the second corner in 3rd kept the pace with the leaders but I found myself looking over my shoulder and losing my focus. By doing this I dropped back to 6th but I started to ride untidy again and getting tired with the track roughing up, I was getting disheartened seeing people I can beat in front me and I could do nothing about it, not a bad finish I think about 12th again.
3rd Race
Got a good gate again a kept the pace for about four laps in about 5th and started to get tired, I was trying to defend my line going up one of chalky hills and slid out and came off and had to wait till the track was clear till I got back on by then I had dropped down 23rd got a few positions back but I didn't know what position I finished in the race. Overall very disappointed with my performance I need to shake off my cold/infection and get more bike time. |

| First Round Hampshire Motocross Club - West Meon - 18th February 2007 |
The first race meeting of the year for the RSR racing team and I was flying solo, because my team mate Olly is still getting over his knee operation. As I drove to West Meon I was pretty nervous as I have been training really hard over the last four months and hopes were high. When I arrived I spoke to some fellow riders and they told me that the track has been graded, this sounded good! or so I thought.
PRACTISE
I started at the front as I was in first practise and didn't want to get covered in mud. The conditions were really wet and deep and it made life a little hard for myself and my fellow riders. I finished practise without any incidents and my Dad first words to me were "you enjoyed that" I was covered in mud and so was the bike, my reply was "you think".
QUALIFYING
Lined up on the new metal drop gate, which Hampshire motocross club bought over the winter break. The gate dropped and I was away. Got the holeshot and led the race for about half a lap when I was over taken by Mark Withers who I over took back within the next corner. As I did that I was taken by Lee Foyle so was in 2nd place but had Luke Lambert right behind me. He passed me but crashed straight away and so I took 2nd in the race.
250 SHOOTOUT
It felt strange watching the 125 race from the line as I have spent my motocross career on a 125. The gate dropped but not a great start for me because the front wheel raised along the start straight. I was in 3rd place higher than I thought though! I then dropped down into 4th place and that's where I stayed to te flag. Pretty uneventful really, but I was happy with the result.
1st A RACE
This is it! this is what I have been training for over the winter I am a stone heaviert and really fit but am I race fit? Didn't start that great just inside the top ten. I managed to keep that position for a while and was the second junior and then first because of the falling Dave Ponting. I was running about 10th in the race and that was as good as it got because I stalled the bike going into one of the corners. I think the bike was too heavy with the mud or could it be I was little rusty because of the winter break. I got the Honda started again but by that time about 12 riders have over taken me. Got going again only to fall off just before the finish line so this race was pretty much a write off.
2nd A RACE
After a team talk with Olly and the rest of the team it was decided that it was all or nothing!! The gate dropped and I was flying out of the box with 37 riders behind me. I was round the corner in 3rd place but after a silly little mistake dropped down to 6th place. Held that position for about a lap and half and was keeping pace with the leaders all of them acu experts so I was thinking this is good and I even had more to offer. But where I have been of the bike for four months my arms pumped up and I lost a few postions. I don't know what position I came but overall I was disapponited with my race fittness but that will come with more bike time. I am happy with the speed I showed in both of the A races. So bring on the next meeting. |
